Waves crashing on share

Time to change the game

Posted in

Each marketing campaign will launch, grow and ultimately fade away, only to be followed by the next promotional cycle. Each customer relationship will start, develop and mature, and finally dissolve as time goes on.

Many marketers are preoccupied with extending the growth phase – keeping the cycle of sales going for as long as they can. But they are merely stalling what is inevitable, because the higher they go, the higher they’ll fall.

When success lasts a long time, it makes us complacent and the business becomes stale. A good campaign worked once – because it was right for that moment. But society moves on, and so does business.

And if business doesn’t follow the natural cycles, it comes crashing down. Astrology shows us what these cycles are, what changes we can expect, and what it takes to live and work in tune with the overarching cosmos.

For example, Pluto shows the mental models and thought corridor of a society. And Neptune’s position highlights collective visions and dreams.

Within these confines, the marketer can craft their communications – and set the company up for a game on a local, national or global stage.

It is an infinite game, as there are many players, and each begs for a chance to sing a solo on the world’s stage. Each player will have their turn – they will have their time, but it is up to them what they make of it.

Will the marketer copy those that went before him? Or will he dare to express his very own – and see what happens? Will have the foresight to know that being different, being honest and being real, is more important than a game of pretend-play?

Will he be at peace when his role in the game is over, or will he look back to regret every move? Will he find a new game to play – knowing that life itself is a game?

Because as a master of one discipline, he has hundreds more games to explore. He can play a consultant, a copywriter, or salesmen in business – he can play a father, a housewife or single in private.

Each game starts, stays and stops. This principle is universal. But the question is: does the marketer know when it’s time to change the game?
